Earlier this year, I had the privilege to participate in a mastermind and be personally coached by the inspiring entrepreneur and author Jessica Huie. A native Londoner, Jessica has been speaking and writing about how to find purpose, a topic I am also very passionate about, for many years now. As she is also an experienced publicist, I had attended a few of her talks directed at small businesses since I started my practice in 2016. Finally, this year the stars aligned for the opportunity to work directly with her to become a reality.
We spent a couple of days together in west London with other impressive writers, healers, coaches and entrepreneurs, as I anxiously waited for her feedback on how I could make my work known to more people.
“Dina, why do you hardly mention you use Reiki in your work?”
Hmm...this was the last thing I expected her to bring up! She then wisely reminded me it is quite a unique offering that people should be made aware of.
Reiki can be translated from Japanese as universal energy - the energy which flows through all living things. I offer short Reiki treatments at the start of coaching sessions to support the coaching work to follow. Truth be told, I have always wanted to be inclusive enough in my work that everyone, regardless of their spiritual beliefs, will feel welcome to work with me. This is why to this day, adding Reiki to our coaching sessions remains optional.
That said, Jessica is absolutely right. I have not shared enough why I love to bring Reiki to coaching sessions, so if you are curious to know why, read on :-)
Reiki helps to relax and calm the nerves. Life is busy. Clients often arrive at my sessions in a rush and naturally begin to approach the session as a problem to solve with the mind, as another task on the to-do list to get done quickly. Although the mind is involved in the process, we are aiming for connection to your deepest desires and this requires a more calmed, relaxed state of being.
Reiki declutters the mind. The mind is often bogged down with endless tasks it needs to remember and get done. As I begin to give Reiki to clients, I am often told they can see all these tasks from a more distant place, in a temporary letting go of sorts, so the mind can come into the present and focus and the client’s true intention for the session.
Reiki highlights what is most important to you in this moment. Reiki supports clarity. By noticing what is most important to you in the moment, you recognise where your attention is most needed in order to transform your life for the better. After Reiki, when I ask clients what is most pressing for them in this moment, they are already more relaxed, the mind has decluttered a bit and the answer quickly bubbles up without hesitation so we can quickly proceed to address it instead of jumping into the last thing that happened to them, which may not be as important.
Reiki energy brings an added element of magic to support your process of change. When adding Reiki energy to the session, we are not just working through a situation, two people on their own, but we are also inviting universal energy/ a higher consciousness (or however you would like to define this) to join the process. Hand on heart, I cannot emphasise enough how often clients come to me while we are working together and say things like:
“This will sound weird, but” or “This will sound strange, but” + insert coincidence or downright miracle here.
Everything from running into someone they’ve been meaning to get in touch with to a complete stranger overhearing them speak about their plans and offering useful information, to some mind-blowing, unexpected connections made that helped them move forward towards their goals. And while I do believe that when you start taking sincere action in the direction of your dreams, doors begin to open, I know Reiki gives it that extra boost!
Reiki increases your intuition. Intuition can be included as one component of problem-solving, along with practical knowledge and an understanding of your options. Reiki can demonstrate how to access new sources of information in our body that we may have been ignoring up to now. As my clients will attest, I am a strong believer that you will know your truth by the way it feels.
Reiki initiates a process of physical and emotional detox. That’s just what Reiki does, which is why I ask clients to hydrate well and provide plenty of mineral water or herbal tea during sessions, to support this. As a wellbeing life coach, I can confirm that the healthier we are in our bodies, the easier it is to connect to its truth. After all, our brain is in our body, right?
Reiki re-connects you to your sense of well-being. Reiki just feels lovely. It reminds you of how you would like to feel more often and, as a result, to look for ways to create more space for wellbeing in your life, which helps offset any career-related stress as you work towards your career change goals.
So these are the main reasons I offer and prefer to bring Reiki to my coaching sessions. As a Reiki Master I can go very deep and spiritual about Reiki, how it works and how it can help transform lives, but I will stop here and just say that I am available to share more about Reiki in conversation – just ask!
Of course, coaching works very well without Reiki and clients who have had coaching without Reiki have also reached their goals, but I hope I’ve been able to demonstrate how Reiki brings the coaching process to another level. If this article has resonated with you and you would like to try coaching imbued with Reiki, whether for career change or for something else you would like support with, let’s have a conversation.
